Marco Benfatto scored second victory at Tour of China II

Zheng Zhang, Jambalyamts Sainbayar and Stephen Clancy on the attack in Tour of China II second stage

19th September, 2019 – Anshun, Guizhou, China: Stage 2 of the 10th edition of Tour of China II, Anshun circuit race, was concluded earlier today. The parcours for today’s stage was slightly hilly but without too much of elevation change, the 127.8 km stage included 2 intermediate sprints and a category 4 climb.

The first of the two sprint points came in at kilometer 6.9, which made for a blistering start to the stage. Previous WT rider Youcef Reguigui of Terengganu Cycling Team, who sprinted to a second place finish yesterday, snatched the points at the line. Break of the day was established soon afterwards, Zheng Zhang was once again seen in the pointy end of the race, riding alongside him were 4 riders including polka dot wearer in Tour of China I Sainbayar. With 3 minutes of time gap ahead of the peloton, the race within the race was white-hot between Sainbayar and Zhang, for the glory of KOM. Zheng Zhang beated his rival at the line at the top of today’s only categorized climb, as well as the following intermediate sprint.

Into the finishing circuit, defending their yellow jersey, Terengganu Cycling Team came to the front and began to set the pace alongside Androni Giocattoli – Sidermec. The pace was high into the final kilometers, lead group’s advantage was quicking worn down, but the fight was still on. At 300 meters mark, Zheng Zhang launched his attack for the line, dropping his breakaway companions, but only to be passed by the sprinters right before the finish. Androni’s Marco Benfatto claimed another sprint victory, followed by Andrea Guardini and Youcef Reguigui.
